This IES review was commissioned by the South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) to deliver insight into flexible working approaches.

IES was asked to work with four NHS Trusts from within SEL ICS to explore current flexible working practice and understand views on the ground: King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

IES is also working with Guy’s & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) as part of a project with Timewise. This SEL ICS review intended to expand on the GSTT project to enable learning and levelling up across the system.

Project aims:

1. Provide a snapshot of the current flexible working practice within SEL ICS
a) Assess current levels of flexible working among the workforce
b) Identify existing flexible working interventions
c) Understand employee’s current attitudes towards and experiences of flexible working

2. Provide an understanding of flexible working requirements across SEL ICS
a) Identify potential needs for greater flexibility
b) Understand barriers to increasing flexible working
c) Identify potential training tools required to support increase uptake of flexible working (including the potential for scaling existing interventions)
