Dominic Hewitt
BA, MA
Research Officer
dom.hewitt@employment-studies.co.uk
Dom joined IES as a Research Officer in October 2024. His main current research interests are related to the issue of unemployment and the benefits system in the UK and how people can be supported to find suitable work opportunities. Dom is also interested in the relationship between education and training and employment prospects, in terms of both the Higher Education sector and training opportunities such as apprenticeships.
Having studied Social Policy, Politics and Economics (BA) and Global Public Policy with Integrated Placement (MA) at the University of Birmingham, Dom gained knowledge, skills and experience of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research methods. The placement aspect of Dom’s MA involved working at a foodbank, where he had an operational and research role to support foodbank clients and improve their access to services. Working at the foodbank provided an insight into the interrelationship between employment status, the benefits system, and food insecurity in the UK, as well as an understanding of the role and workings of third sector organisations.
