School Gates Employment Initiative to Help Tackle UK Child Poverty
The School Gates Employment Initiative was part of the government's efforts to tackle child poverty in the UK, and to support families through the economic downturn, with a particular focus on potential second earners. The initiative ran from October 2009 to March 2011 in 25 areas of the UK. IES was commissioned to conduct a study into this initiative. This involved a literature review, qualitative research in 13 of the 25 areas, and analysis of management information. IES will also be participating in two regional practitioner events as part of the study.
