Mental Health and Employment
IES, in partnership with the Social Policy Research Unit at York University participated in a major project on mental health and employment, for the Department of Work and Pensions. IES looked at employers' policies and practices towards people with mental health conditions, with a focus on their understanding and awareness of these conditions. We also examined the role of the Disability Discrimination Act, recruitment and selection practices, experiences of employing and retaining people with mental health conditions, and advice, support and information needed by employers in this area.
