Tony Wilson will be stepping down as the Director of the Institute for Employment Studies on 11 October, in order to take up a new post at the Department for Work and Pensions as an Expert Adviser. Tony joined IES in October 2018 and has led the Institute through a period of significant growth over that time. We will be launching the process for recruiting his successor immediately, with more information on the recruitment process available here. The deadline for applications is Monday 4 November 2024.

Kathy Poole, Chair of the IES Board of Trustees, said:
“We wish Tony the very best of luck in his new role and would like to thank him for his leadership of the Institute and the impact that he has made over the last six years. He leaves the Institute in a strong position, with a reputation for high quality and impactful work and well placed for the future. We are looking forward to appointing a new Director who can build on this and take the Institute forward in the next stage of our development.”

Tony Wilson, outgoing Institute Director, said:
“I have loved my six years at IES and will really miss the great team here and the opportunity to do the work that we do. However I’m also really looking forward to coming ‘back’ to the civil service and to DWP, and to helping deliver the government’s reform agenda.”

The Board of IES anticipate that the selection process for a new Director will be completed around the end of the year, with a new Director in post in early 2025. In the meantime Suzanne Anderson, Director of Finance and Resources and Company Secretary, will be Interim Director for the Institute.
